(Peoria, Illinois | October 19, 2026) – OSF HealthCare has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the nation’s 100 hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs for 2026. The annual list recognizes organizations for their work in cancer research, innovation and treatment.
Opened in February 2024, OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute serves as the flagship of OSF HealthCare’s oncology program, bringing together cancer prevention, screening, risk assessment, genetic counseling, diagnosis, treatment, clinical research and survivorship services in one location. The institute serves as a destination for complex cancer care across OSF HealthCare’s 18-hospital integrated health system in Illinois and Michigan.
OSF Cancer Institute provides a comprehensive range of cancer services, including medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, chemotherapy, theranostics, brachytherapy, in-house diagnostics and early-phase clinical trials. Patients also have access to support services such as navigation, behavioral health, rehabilitation, nutrition, social services and survivorship care.
“This recognition reflects our commitment to advancing cancer care, bringing innovative treatments to patients and supporting individuals and families throughout their cancer journeys,” said Kimberly Russo, CEO, Central Region, OSF HealthCare.
OSF Cancer Institute is home to one of only two comprehensive proton beam therapy programs in Illinois. Since April 2024, 380 patients have completed proton therapy at the institute. This advanced form of radiation treatment uses protons to target tumors and can help limit radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue in appropriate patients.
OSF HealthCare also continues to advance lung cancer prevention and early detection. In 2025, OSF HealthCare became the first organization in the nation to offer a blood test designed to help detect lung cancer at an early stage.
A five-year review of OSF HealthCare’s centralized, navigator-led and artificial intelligence-assisted lung cancer screening program found that low-dose computed tomography screening rates increased from 18.2% in 2020 to 42.8% in 2025. During that period, annual screening volume nearly doubled across the health system. Sites serving rural communities also reported increases of more than 20% in stage 1 lung cancer diagnoses.
Becker’s Healthcare compiles its annual oncology programs list through a combination of nominations and analysis of recognized industry rankings. Organizations cannot pay for inclusion on the list. The full 2026 list is available at Becker’s Hospital Review.
